Green Beans are never an Option

With Alina
So Constanta just became EVEN better! I didn't think it was possible. But now, one of my besties in the mission, Sora Abby Polatis, is here with me. We are having so much fun every single day! We've set a ton of fun goals, and random goals and every single day we are improving in the language and in our skills as missionaries. It's awesome! Sora Polatis is from Idaho, from a big family of 8 kids. She has one brother and one sister who are also serving missions! How cool it that? Yeah, I know, sorry, those rhetorical questions in a mass email probably are annoying, but still, she's pretty awesome. Oh... she also LOVES taking pictures, so, get ready peeps! This transfer will be well-documented :)

I'm Optimus Prime, she's Bumblebee
Themes and Fun
So Sora Polatis and one of her old companions used to do themed days. Each day was a different theme and they'd wear clothes/jewellery accordingly. Then they'd learn new words or phrases also in accord with the theme. Now, we have decided to continue the tradition. It's making every single day so much more fun! So far we've had Transformers day, Shark Day (because we're attacking the transfer), Bug's Life (just cos I felt like wearing butterfly earrings), and today is Sports Day (because we're dressed to play volleyball for after internet :). So anyhoo, you'll be getting lots of fun photos over the time we're together. We seriously just laugh every single day!

Shark Day!
our pony tails were our "fins" and we're wearing oceany/shark colours
Language mess ups
So this week, as Sora Polatis and I were teaching our new investigator Gabriella. Gabriella is really awesome and we reckon she has a lot of potential to become a wonderful member of the church. Only problem is that she's quite agnostic so we're starting right from the beginning. As I began to explain to her, the nature of God, she clearly didn't understand that God the Father and Christ and the Spirit are separate beings, though one in purpose. Now, the words for "I am" and "They are"  are the same in Romanian. So I tried to say "They are three separate beings" but, I didn't clarify which word I meant and so it came across as "I am three separate beings, the Father, the Son and the Spirit!" Blasphemous much? yeah... it was kinda awkward. Thankfully the look of terror on her face made me realize that I needed to clarify, and we quickly cleared up that little mess.

Green beans:
Since we had transfers last week, which were brilliant by the way, we didn't have time to go properly grocery shopping. But we figured that since there was a bunch of left-over food in the house,  we'd make it until Monday. We gradually ate through the leftovers, until Friday afternoon, just before weekly planning, we thought that all we had was a bag of frozen green beans. Now, for those of you who don't know... I hate green beans! But, when I was with Sora DeRuvo she showed me how to blend up vegetables into a rather tasty soup just by adding some spices and stuffs. So I thought, hey, maybe green bean soup won't be too bad. Sora didn't have any better ideas so I boiled them up and blended them and added some spices and stuff. We sat at the table, blessed it and proceeded to taste the green sludge. It was awful!! Green bean soup...aka slimey, bland disgustingness, ugh what was I thinking? It resembled something from Tim Burton movie. "Gross!!!" We both grimaced.... and kept on eating it. "Ewwww! Ugh!" We kept on eating it.... We ate it awkwardly laughing at ourselves for about ten minutes, then threw it out and had cereal for Lunch instead. When we later told the story to Sora Cook she said, "Why wasn't cereal your first choice? Why were green beans even an option?" Good question Sora Cook.... good question.

Investigators and stuffs:
Everyone seems to be progressing really well. Alina has a bit of a desire issue, but we had a great lesson with Elena from the branch and she seems to better understand the importance of the restoration now. Andra is doing great. She is really searching for and answer now. We're really going to focus this week on helping her to understand her answer. She's been really struggling with Joseph Smith. I love how, every time and investigator has a problem with a part of the gospel, it is an opportunity for me to strengthen my own testimony of that principal. Well, that has definitely been the case for me this week. My testimony of Priesthood authority and Joseph Smith have grown tremendously. I love it!

This week is prime time for English Contacting. We're really excited to try and get a big class again. Through prayers and hard work, it'll happen! The Lord has been so merciful to me as of late, and it truly inspires me to just work harder and harder so that I can be a little more worthy of His tender mercies.

I love this mission! It's really changing me. I mean, I'm still me. I'm still the same Jessi, just hopefully, a better Jessi. I've really started to discover who I am here. Which talents I've been blessed with, and which weaknesses I get to work on. I love, that every single day is perfectly custom-designed just for me and I get to make the decision to make use of it.

This church is true! Keep the Faith

Love Sora Rivera
